Matt Grimes praises perseverance of Swansea City striker Liam Cullen
Swansea City skipper Matt Grimes has praised striker Liam Cullen’s patience and perseverance after the striker made it two goals in two games against Reading.
It was a case of right place, right time for the Swans academy product with his goal at the Select Car Leasing; Cullen showing a poacher's instinct as he followed play and tapped the ball into an empty net after a Joel Piroe header had hit the woodwork.
It was an almost identical goal to the equaliser Cullen scored at Coventry, with the forward again being in the right place to finish after Piroe had struck the post.
Cullen has three goals in nine appearances in all competitions this term. He has had eight league outings, all as a substitute, and started in the Carabao Cup tie at Oxford, in which he was also on the scoresheet.
He has had to bide his time but Grimes says he and the rest of the Swans team are delighted for the 23-year-old, who has taken his recent chances with both hands.
“Liam deserves it. He has been brilliant with his attitude," said Grimes.
“He’s had to wait for his opportunity and he’s taken his chance when it came.
“He’s been working really hard in training every day so it’s good to see him on the scoresheet. Hopefully there will be many more goals for him.”
