Matt Grimes pleased with unbeaten start for new partnership
Matt Grimes is pleased with how his midfield partnership with Korey Smith is developing, and believes the new signing is already making his presence felt at Swansea City.
Smith, 29, was the first of Swansea’s transfer window acquisitions as he signed on in SA1 following six years with Bristol City.
He has started every Championship fixture alongside skipper Grimes, with the pair’s understanding growing with every week as shown in their effective showings in the win over Millwall.
But with the likes of Jay Fulton, George Byers, Morgan Gibbs-White and Yan Dhanda among those battling for those midfield roles, the pressure is on to perform.
“I think Korey has come in and done really well, as you would expect of a player of his experience in this division,” said Grimes.
“It’s good to have someone like him alongside me, and you can see the energy he brings. He’s a positive character too and it’s been a good start.
“It's going well, but we have to be able to keep that going.
"We know there are players like Jay – who’s done really well coming off the bench – and Yan, as well as George when he is back fit, who are capable of making an impact and doing well for us.
“So, we have to keep our performance levels high because there is that competition there.”
