Matt Grimes | Luke is a top coach, he gives you so much energy
Captain Matt Grimes believes Luke Williams’ energy and enthusiasm will be a real positive for Swansea City.
Williams was confirmed as the Swans’ new head coach on Friday, returning to SA1 following a successful and record-breaking 18-month stint in charge of Notts County, and saw his side beat Morecambe 2-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Midfielder Grimes worked with Williams when he was an assistant head coach during the 2021-22 campaign, and has welcomed his appointment.
And he is confident Williams’ knowledge of the club’s identity, and commitment to progressive, attacking football will stand the squad and Swansea City as a whole in good stead.
“Luke is is a top coach,” said Grimes.
“He has been unbelievably successful previously, and obviously he was assistant here a couple of years back.
“I know what he brings to the table and after one session you could already see some of the things we were working on.
It’s brilliant to have him back. He is very enthusiastic, he is very hands-on, and he just gives you energy.
“He gives you so much belief in what you are doing and what he is telling you.
“It will take a bit of time, we are not going to be the finished article immediately after one session and one game.
“We want to get to a place, whether it is in six months or a year’s time, where we are fully delivering what he and the staff want and how he wants to play.
“It’s the start of a process and one we are excited by.
“We have some time on the training pitch now, I think there is a week of work between the next few upcoming games. We have to take it as it comes, keep building and keep improving and looking like the team he wants us to be.”
