Matt Grimes eager for Derby test
Swansea City captain Matt Grimes is already itching to get back out on the field against Derby this weekend after leading the Swans to a winning start to the 2019-20 season.
The midfielder took the armband for the first time in Saturday’s Championship opener against Hull last weekend, and turned in a typically authoritative display as Steve Cooper’s men came from behind to win 2-1.
After six weeks of hard work during pre-season, Grimes was pleased to get down to meaningful action with points at stake.
And the 24-year-old is eagerly looking forward to the trip to Pride Park to take on Phillip Cocu’s Rams, and building on a strong second-half showing against the Tigers.
“I can’t wait for the next game already – such is the start of the football season. That will carry on throughout the season until we finish next summer,” said Grimes.
“We know we can get better. It’s all about building momentum at the start of the season.
“We’ve just got to take each game as it comes, try to keep playing like the way we did in the second half and picking up three points.”
