Matt Gill | Rotation a consideration ahead of hectic end to pre-World Cup fixture list
Assistant head coach Matt Gill says Swansea City will need to manage their squad as they prepare for four games in just 11 days to round off the Championship schedule before the World Cup break.
Three of that quartet of fixtures are away from home, starting with Tuesday night’s trip to take on Preston North End at Deepdale.
The Swans then return to SA1 to host Wigan, before heading out on their travels again to take on Birmingham and Huddersfield.
Head coach Russell Martin and his staff have nearly a full-strength squad to choose from, with Joel Piroe back from suspension and only Joe Allen and Liam Walsh absent, for the trip to the Lilywhites.
But with the hectic schedule and a short turnaround from the weekend draw at Bristol City, Gill acknowledges rotation is likely over the coming games.
“We had a recovery session on Sunday just to check on everyone and see how they had come through, and it looks as though everyone has come through unscathed,” he said.
“We are pretty much there with a full squad to choose from other than Joe and Walshy.
“Rotation does come into the equation, we have used the squad really well up until now and we will need to continue to do so until the break.
“The away games do take an extra toll and we have to be ready to consider that as well when it comes to preparation.
“That’s why all the lads get the detail because everyone is going to be needed. We are going to use everyone with the depth we have got and I think the gaffer himself pointed out on the weekend that the bench at Bristol City was probably the strongest we have had since we have been here.
“That stands us in good stead in what is going to be a difficult period.”
