Marc Guehi | Togetherness is the heartbeat of this team
He may be in the early stages of his time as a Swan, but Marc Guehi already knows what Swansea City’s biggest asset will be this season.
Having arrived in January from Chelsea for the second half of last season, Guehi is back on loan at the Liberty as he looks forward to a full campaign in SA1.
The centre-back made 14 appearances - 13 from the start - last term as the Swans reached the Championship play-offs.
The Swans’ league campaign kicks off this Saturday with a trip to Preston with Guehi one of a number of summer signings, including Morgan Gibbs-White, Jamal Lowe, Korey Smith and Freddie Woodman, who also returns for a second loan spell at the Liberty.
And the 20-year-old feels the club’s ethos will give them a good platform to hit the ground running – starting at Deepdale this weekend.
“It was important to keep a lot of the squad together because of what we achieved last season,” said Guehi, who has featured twice for England Under-21s in the past few days.
“The finish last season was unexpected from the outside, but within the squad we had the belief that we could make the play-offs.
“This season we really want to build on that.
“Now we’ve added a few more faces - quality faces with experience - it will benefit us a lot.
“Morgan’s a really good player who I know well. We spent a lot of time growing up together with England’s age groups and I’m sure the fans will enjoy watching him play.
“What these guys will find here is that it’s all for the team and all for the club. It’s a massive family here in the city.
“It’s a collective effort, and that is the heartbeat of this team – the togetherness.”
