Maddy Murray | I appreciate the opportunity and I think I took it well
Defender Maddy Murray was delighted to have the opportunity to step into the Swansea City Women backline as her side progressed to the Genero Adran Trophy semi-finals.
Murray came into the side in place of Jess Williams, and helped the Swans to a clean sheet in a dominant 5-0 win over Cascade.
Emily Richards opened the scoring for the Swans, before a stunning hat-trick from Stacey John-Davis and a late Jasmine Guymer goal secured safe passage to the semi-finals.
Murray was glad she could help the team earn cup progression in only her third start for the club, and was pleased she took her opportunity.
“It’s one of my first 90 minutes so I’m happy and proud to have helped the team to a clean sheet,” said Murray, who joined the club in the summer.
“Obviously it’s situational, but I appreciate the chance and I think that I took it well and I’m really happy with that.
“I think all of the defence put our bodies on the line to make sure that we didn’t concede and the attackers did their job at the other end.”
“The girls played amazing, Jamie [Sherwood] asked for us to play a certain way and I think we definitely hit all those targets.
“They were a good team that gave us some challenges, but I think we used what we’ve learned throughout the season and played the way Jamie asked, and I think we did it well.”
