Luke Williams | The week has been a great experience
Luke Williams hopes the week-long tour of Austria will bring his Swansea City squad closer together as the start of the Championship season draws ever nearer.
The head coach saw his Swans side draw 1-1 against North Macedonia club FK Vardar at the picturesque Sportzentrum Friedberg on their final day in the Burgenland region.
Gonçalo Franco struck his maiden goal in a Swans shirt as the Portuguese midfielder lashed a rising strike into the top corner just past the hour mark, cancelling out Djibril Dianessy’s opener for Vardar.
Josh Tymon thought he had won it for the Swans late on, but the referee adjudged that his far-post effort had not crossed the line.
Williams was able to give minutes to the majority of the travelling party, and they now return home for next weekend’s final pre-season assignment against Rio Ave at the Swansea.com Stadium.
“It was ideal for us, it allowed us to get minutes into everyone which is important for everyone ahead of the start of the big show,” he said.
“We now have one more friendly to come and we have to try to give everyone the correct amount of minutes to get them in the right way and then it will be time to go.
“It’s been a great week, it’s really allowed us to focus on our work as we wanted to before we came out here.
“We have all been together as a group, there have been no distractions. The conditions are hard when you are out here doing physical work, with a large amount of running and conditioning.
“The players have been incredible, we have had a great experience here and hopefully this will help us feel more bonded together as we head into the season.”
The Swans boss was also happy to see Franco on the scoresheet as he continues to settle in to life at his new club following his move from Moreirense.
“Yeah, it was a nice moment for him. His effort and the way he has applied himself since he got here has been excellent and it was nice to see him score,” added Williams.
