Luke Williams | We want a spark to excite "incredible" sold-out away end
Head coach Luke Williams wants his Swansea City side to show a spark in their Championship fixture at Birmingham City and give the “incredible” sold out away end plenty to shout about at St Andrew’s.
Williams takes charge of his first Championship fixture as Swans boss on Saturday, having watched his side record a 2-0 win over Morecambe in the FA Cup barely 24 hours after his appointment.
Some 2,000 travelling Jacks are making the journey to the west Midlands to back the Swans, and Williams says he is humbled by their backing given the long journeys involved in following the club away from home.
And he hopes they will see the signs of the team the Swans want to become against the Blues.
“I think it’s incredible,” said Williams of the supporters.
“I have been here before, and when you first arrive at Swansea you realise all away games are quite far away.
“That is what makes this place beautiful, that it is nearly its own island. We do things differently here.
“I know how difficult it is to travel to these games, so we have to make sure we give them something on Saturday.
“I know it is unlikely we will be able to give them an unbelievable performance that will be the best they have ever seen, but the fans will want to see a spark on Saturday that hopefully will ignite a fire in time.
“I’m going to make sure players and staff understand that the sacrifice to travel is huge, so we need to create some brilliant moments of excitement that they can talk about and all those little things that make it worth travelling for supporters.”
