Luke Williams | We should not need any extra motivation than playing for this club
Luke Williams insists Swansea City should need no extra motivation than playing for the club and badge when they face Huddersfield Town this afternoon (3pm).
The Swans head to the John Smith’s Stadium following back-to-back home wins against Stoke City and Rotherham United.
Those results have ensured the Swans will retain Championship status, but their hosts remain firmly in the relegation dogfight with three games remaining.
But, while acknowledging there is plenty at stake for the Terriers, head coach Williams does not expect his own side to show any lack of application or energy in west Yorkshire.
“I want to see energy levels that are the same as we have shown in the last two games,” he said.
“I want us to continue to work to entertain the people who go out of their way to support the club they love.
“We need to show them the respect they deserve, and that’s continuously the message to the group.
“When we get it right, we will be in a good place, when we get it wrong we have to be honest about it and get right back at it.
“Playing for this club is motivation enough.
“We owe it to ourselves and all the other teams to play and apply ourselves correctly, as there are a number of clubs involved. We have a responsibility to them and the competition.
“And there is plenty motivation in the group and we have to show we can apply ourselves correctly consistently.
“That doesn’t mean you will always win, it’s not as simple as whether you win or lose, but it’s important that becomes part of our identity.”
