Luke Williams | We need to be more ruthless in both boxes

Luke Williams says his Swansea City side need to be more ruthless in both boxes following a narrow defeat against Bristol City.

The Swans dominated possession and chances created – particularly in the first half – but weren’t able to take anything away from Ashton Gate.

Their best chance of the game came on the hour mark when Przemysław Płacheta blasted into the side-netting from close range.

Rob Dickie headed in the only goal of the game from a corner with 20 minutes remaining, and the Swans weren’t able to find a response.

“We didn’t do enough to win the game,” said head coach Williams.

“We’re very disappointed. We were able to control a lot of the game with the ball, but we didn’t create enough openings.

“We controlled the game with the ball, but we need to use that more to create good openings. The few chances that we had, we weren’t clinical enough.

“When you switch off in the box and concede a goal, it’s very difficult because the opposition can defend the lead, and they’ve defended the lead very well.

“We need to concentrate when it’s a set-piece and make sure we have the determination to do our jobs well. So to concede from a set-piece was frustrating.”

The Swans boss was pleased with the way his players were able to go away from home and dominate the ball, and believes it’s now just about finding a ruthless edge in the final third.

“I don’t think we should be too disappointed with the performance overall,” he added.

“We need more cutting edge and more ruthlessness in front of goal.

“We’re hurt and disappointed with the result but we can take some positives away from the performance.

“We’ve come away from home and controlled the game for the most part, we just need to go further and make sure we turn that into great chances and win.”
