Luke Williams | We need to back up Boxing Day performance
Head coach Luke Williams has urged Swansea City to heed the lessons of their Boxing Day victory over Queens Park Rangers and carry them into this afternoon’s meeting with Luton Town (3pm).
The Swans returned to winning ways against the R’s, courtesy of a brace from Liam Cullen and Goncalo Franco’s first goal for the club.
The hosts were utterly dominant, not allowing a shot on target from their opponents, and Williams felt a great accuracy and patience in possession had been key.
And, having hailed the role skipper Matt Grimes played in underlining those points ahead of Thursday’s win, he wants his squad to keep those messages in mind when they face a Luton side who were playing Premier League football last season.
“It is so important we back up the performance and the result from Boxing Day,” said the Swans boss.
“We have to concentrate on the way we performed to try and ensure we play football in the correct way.
“We have to make sure we don’t chase the game too much, or push too much by feeling that we have to win the game in the first 10 minutes.
“It’s about making sure we do not lose sight of the performance, and why we performed in this way.
“If we can perform as we did against QPR more regularly, then we will win a lot more games than we lose.
“The way we performed was heavily driven by the captain again, he was incredible and he is incredible.
“He gave the whole group the correct message and he performed in a way that saw him leading by example. He has helped put us in a really good place now.
“So we have to back that up with another really good performance.”
