Luke Williams | We let a point slip through our grasp
Head coach Luke Williams felt Swansea City had let a point slip through their fingers after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
Substitute Michael Smith got the only goal of the game for the visitors in the second half, firing home after Josh Windass had swooped on a loose pass in the Swans defence.
Myles Peart-Harris’ header was as close as the hosts got to a leveller until Jay Fulton found the net in second-half stoppage time, only for the offside flag to bring the celebrations to a rapid halt.
Lawrence Vigouroux had also denied Smith and Shea Charles at the other end in a game of few chances, and Williams was frustrated his side had not managed to secure the draw he believed their showing merited.
“It is disappointing because, while we did not do enough to win the game, we then made an error. Of course that can happen, but it’s really disappointing to make an error that leads directly to a goal,” he said.
“Like I say, we did not do enough to win the game, but we were good value for a draw because otherwise we defended well.
“There was a point within our grasp, I don’t think we could say we deserved to win the game because we got into some good positions and put some good balls into the box, but we did not anticipate enough.
“There were other moments when the quality and the final ball were not there, or we did not have the correct movements in the box, so not enough to win.
“We do look somewhat more solid in this formation, but we need to be able to attack cleaner and have more balance again to our game.
“But we also have to avoid making the big errors that are costing us.”
