Luke Williams | We have to put in a much better performance
Luke Williams has told his Swansea City side they must raise their level and produce a much-improved performance when they host Ipswich Town at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
The Swans host the promotion-chasing Tractor Boys on the back of a 4-0 defeat to a Leeds United side who are also in the hunt for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Head coach Williams was disappointed by the lack of intensity and aggression in his side’s performance in midweek, and he has made clear that has to improve this weekend.
And, while he cannot fault the work the squad are putting in on the training pitch, the Swans boss has made clear they have to make sure they take that work out onto the field on a matchday.
“The players have been brilliant in how hard they work. We just need to keep putting the repetitions and the practice in, and we then have to go and put that work out on the pitch,” he said.
“Of course, I was upset after the game in midweek, but there is no issue with the application of the players and how they are working.
“But I am telling them and everyone that we have to start playing football and thinking about the game at a higher level so we can try and compete, not just be in this division but make a fist of it.
“We absolutely have to get back to work, we do not have time to sit and sulk or dwell on the game in midweek.
“We have to go and work and put in a much better performance.”
