Luke Williams | We have to earn the trust of the fans
Head coach Luke Williams hopes Swansea City’s strong run of form is building trust between the team and the Jack Army, and he and his players are keen to ensure they keep heading in the right direction.
Saturday’s 4-0 win at Huddersfield Town was Swansea’s biggest win of the season so far, it was also a third victory on the bounce and a third successive clean sheet.
The previous time the Swans had won three league games back-to-back without conceding was in March 2012, when they saw off Wigan Athletic, Manchester City and Fulham in the Premier League.
Williams and his players have acknowledged there is still plenty of hard work ahead, but the Swans boss hopes the effort and energy levels in recent performances have shown supporters glimpses of the team they want to be.
“The idea for us is to build trust with the fans. We want them to feel more trust with us,” he said.
“We’re going to fight for every single ball and, when we get hold of it, we’ll look to play nice football as well.
“Hopefully, if the fans see that regularly, they’ll trust us more. We have to earn their trust, they know what they’re looking at.
“You have to be the real deal and then, bit by bit, they’ll think ‘okay, we have our team that we respect and that’s going to be a nice moment.
“The players have given everything in these recent games, and that’s the bare minimum.
“Then we’ll see if we can play lovely football - which I think we did at times on Saturday - then let’s try to be exciting and create goalmouth opportunities and try to score goals.
“We did that against Huddersfield and when you do that you should be happy going back on the bus, and the fans hopefully were happy too.
“This is what we have to try to create now between here and the end of the season.”
