Luke Williams | We have to cut out costly defensive lapses
Swansea City head coach Luke Williams says his side simply have to cut out the defensive lapses that cost them again in defeat to Ipswich Town.
The Swans fell behind early to the high-flying Tractor Boys when Nathan Broadhead broke clear to chip the ball beyond Carl Rushworth.
However, the hosts rallied and levelled matters when Jerry Yates turned in his eighth goal of the season from a Ben Cabango knockdown just beyond the half-hour mark.
But they were level for less than three minutes as Conor Chaplin finished off a sweeping Ipswich counter following a Swansea free-kick.
The home side piled on the pressure in the second half, with Yates, Liam Cullen and Harry Darling all going close to an equaliser, but it was not to be.
And Williams was frustrated at the manner in which the Swans had conceded.
“We conceded the goals in a silly way. We didn’t need to concede these goals, so that’s disappointing,” he said.
“We got back on level terms. We applied a lot of pressure, got an equaliser and then switched off from the free-kick and that’s where the frustration is.
“We gave everything to try to get back on terms again, I think the players threw everything forward and worked really hard, but we need to play less anxious and not switch off during periods of the game.
“The second goal is a key moment. This is a pattern at the moment of conceding so soon after we score and we have to keep working to prevent that.
“I think we were a match for the opposition, I don’t have any complaints about the work rate or intensity of the players at all, but it’s those key moments that are costing us."
