Luke Williams | We have to be more ruthless in front of goal

Head coach Luke Williams says Swansea City need to find a ruthless edge in front of goal after being unable to turn their dominance of territory and possession into a positive result at Blackburn Rovers.

The Swans suffered a 1-0 defeat at Ewood Park, as Tyrhys Dolan’s early deflected strike separated the sides.

The visitors had control for large portions of the game, but were unable to take their chances with Florian Bianchini, Liam Cullen and Goncalo Franco having the best of them.

Having seen his side rack up 14 shots and have two thirds of the ball, but come out on the wrong end of the scoreline, Williams acknowledged they simply have to find a killer instinct when it comes to taking their chances.

“We are being honest about it as a group, we simply have to be more ruthless in front of goal,” said the Swans boss.

“We are having opportunities and half chances that should really amount to something, and we are not doing that at the moment.

“We have got to improve on that because if we do that we are going to turn narrow defeats like this into draws, and draws into wins.

“To have significantly more of the ball, to have more control and more shots than the opposition away from home in the Championship is very, very tough.

“So there are positive signs there, but the game is about goals and we need to improve on that.

“I think a draw would have been a fair result but my frustration is with the way we started the game.

“We looked slow out of the blocks and did not assert ourselves on the game.

“We got to grips with it, but we ended up doing that too late and that’s disappointing.”
