Luke Williams | We did not maintain our levels and it cost us

Head coach Luke Williams felt Swansea City had paid for dropping their levels of concentration and intensity in their draw against Portsmouth.

The Swans had entered the game on the back of three wins from five games, but fell 2-0 down when Matt Ritchie turned in a cross from close range and Josh Murphy rifled home a low strike.

The hosts got one back before the break when Liam Cullen’s superb cross forced Connor Ogilvie to put through his own net.

The Wales international then levelled for the Swans early in the second half, and he, Jisung Eom and Florian Bianchini were all unable to convert chances to complete the turnaround and seal the win, but it wasn’t to be.

“If we had created a lot of chances, but only scored two goals and won then we would be quite happy,” said the Swans boss.

“But that was not the problem, the problem we gave ourselves was that we gave ourselves a two-goal deficit to overcome.

“We should be able to score two goals at home and comfortably win a game. We have been good defensively, but if you don’t maintain your levels of concentration, and play with the levels of intensity and aggression it can be a big problem.

“There are no excuses, these are professional players, they are outstanding at their best and we have to bring that every week.

“I am impressed with the resilience of the group to come back, but there are times we have let ourselves down with the way we have approached the game, or periods of game, and today we started the game poorly and paid for it."
