Luke Williams | We did not handle the pressure well enough
Luke Williams felt Swansea City had paid for being unable to build on their first-half showing after they were held to a draw by Bristol City.
The Swans had led 1-0 at the break thanks to Ben Cabango’s finish from a Jisung Eom corner, while Ollie Cooper saw his blocked ricochet onto a post, and Goncalo Franco had a fierce volley batted away by Max O’Leary in the Robins goal.
Lawrence Vigouroux had made important saves to deny Yu Hirakawa and Sinclair Armstrong, but there was nothing he could do to prevent Jason Knight heading home with 15 minutes to go.
And, while Williams felt there had been many positive signs in the overall display as Swansea extended their unbeaten run to three games, and remained without defeat in the league on home turf, the head coach cut a disappointed figure.
“It is frustrating because in the second half it felt like we came under pressure and we did not manage to cope with it on this occasion,” said Williams.
“There was no problem with how we started the game, we played really well against a really tough team. We were very good in that first 45 minutes, but we did not see the game through in the right way and that is disappointing.
“We expect the opposition to have good spells in the game, because they are a really good side, but we needed to be able to cope with that.
“We know we have to continue to improve and keep working.
“There is plenty we can take from how we have started the season, we are in a good position.
“The thing is we want to be in a better position, and that’s how we feel at the moment and that’s the feeling in the dressing room.
“We know we are working in an honest way, we are trying to learn from each performance.
“I know people hear this sort of thing a lot, but we are working to improve at both ends of the pitch. It sounds very easy, but it’s a difficult thing to do.”
