Luke Williams | We deserved a point, I am gutted for the players

Head coach Luke Williams felt his Swansea City side would have deserved the point they were on course for at Turf Moor before being denied in agonising fashion by Jay Rodriguez’s stoppage-time penalty.

The Swans had looked set to make it seven points in the space of eight days after a performance where they defended resolutely and crafted out a handful of clear chances, with Liam Cullen having a header cleared off the line, and Florian Bianchini and Joe Allen unable to finish good opportunities.

Lawrence Vigouroux made some strong saves, with centre-half pairing Ben Cabango and Harry Darling outstanding once again.

But referee David Webb adjudged that Matt Grimes had handled in a scramble after a Burnley free-kick, and Rodriguez made no mistake from the spot.

Williams admitted it was a tough way to lose, but felt there had been positives from a display where his side were a match for a home side who were in the Premier League last season and are fancied by many for a swift return.

“It was a tough way to lose,” said the Swans boss.

“I thought we probably deserved a draw, so to lose all the points so late on is difficult.

“It was a tough game, but I think we held our own and we made it fairly tough for them as well.

“I think a draw would have been a fair result for both sides.

“But I am really happy with the players, really happy with them.

“I thought they were fantastic and I think the fans appreciated the performance from the players, although I know they will be as gutted as we are.

“I think they saw a team that was motivated and organised, and they are the important things they have to see because they have come a very long way to watch us try and win a game and I am sure they recognised that in the performance.

“So I am happy with the players, but I am gutted for them.”
