Luke Williams | We are showing the qualities we want to have as a team
Head coach Luke Williams believes Swansea City are showcasing the identity they are trying to build on the pitch, but says there is plenty more hard work ahead for he and his team.
The Swans travel to Burnley this weekend looking to make it three wins in a row following victories over Oxford United and Watford.
Those wins had come on the back of a series of games where the Swans had been unable to make the most of periods of dominance and control.
But Williams feels the foundation stones are in place for his team to continue to grow and improve after climbing to within touching distance of the play-off places.
“I think we owe it to ourselves to be in the position we are in (at the end of the season) as a minimum,” he said.
“We owe it to ourselves. We are sitting ninth and we are within striking distance, and we should be seeking to be in that position and no lower.
“That is easier said than done, but when I talk about identity we have had the majority of the possession in a number of games but we coupled that up with the highest xGs in those games.
“Then we start to have an identity that we are going to take the ball off the opposition really quickly, and we are going to try and create more chances than them to score.
“If we can be excellent at denying the opposition chances, if we can become excellent at creating them, and in the middle of the pitch be the most efficient at taking the ball from one end to the other and taking it from the other team; that’s football.
“We have tried to concentrate on the game and breaking it down into those component parts, we are doing okay and I think we can improve.”
