Luke Williams | We are disappointed to lose, but I am proud of the team

Luke Williams was proud of his Swansea City side despite seeing them suffer a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The visitors made it a challenging evening for the unbeaten hosts – who were relegated from the Premier League last season and are fancied for an immediate return – particularly in a first half where they subdued the home crowd and had spells of control.

Just prior to Josh Tymon’s own goal, which proved the difference between the sides, they had created a great chance for Myles Peart-Harris, while there were several other moments of promise they could not make the most of.

The hosts had the better of the second period, striking the woodwork twice and seeing Lawrence Vigouroux make a handful of important stops, but had some nervy moments during the closing stages as Swansea pressed for a leveller.

While disappointed by a first loss in four Championship games, Williams felt there was plenty his side could take from the manner of much of their display in south Yorkshire.

“I am really proud of the team tonight, I think this is a really tough game away from home and there was a lot I was really happy with,” he said.

“I felt we were excellent for a lot of the first half, I don’t think it is easy to come and control the game like we did at times here.

“Then I think we had the first really good chance of the game which we don’t convert, and then we concede soon after and that was the margin in this game.

“It ends up a 1-0 game, and when you look at that passage of play it could easily have been the other way.

“I don’t think anyone is going to come here and not have spells like we had in the second half, but I felt we limited those spells and we did have chances in those final stages.”

Williams made a point of seeking out Tymon as the players left the pitch following the half-time whistle, with the defender visibly frustrated with himself.

And the Swans boss had backed the full-back to quickly bounce back from his understandable disappointment.

“I did not want him to dwell on it, because he has been incredible,” said Williams.

“He has tried to scoop the ball away from danger and sometimes those things happen.

“I am disappointed for him because I was proud of him and his performance as well.”
