Luke Williams | That was a proper team performance
Head coach Luke Williams praised the all-round team performance from Swansea City as they returned to winning ways with goals from Žan Vipotnik and Florian Bianchini in a 2-1 victory at Oxford United.
The Swans ended their wait for a goal and put an end to Oxford’s unbeaten home record into the bargain.
Vipotnik rewarded a dominant opening half by turning in Ronald’s cross at the far post seven minutes before the break, before Bianchini swept a right-footed finish into the bottom corner from a Gonçalo Franco through ball for his first goal for the club.
Dane Scarlett pulled a goal back for the hosts in the final minutes, but the Swans held out for a deserved win at the Kassam Stadium.
And Williams was proud of the performance his side produced after a difficult run.
“It was a very good afternoon’s work and I was really happy to see a couple of goals go in after this period we have been through,” he said.
“I think the group deserve a lot of credit because they did not look like a team that were lacking confidence, we were at it right from the kick-off.
“We tried to establish control immediately and played some really good football. We thoroughly deserved the victory.
“We got the goals but without the guys at the back doing their jobs, helping us in the build-up to get there, or to win the ball back quickly, then we don’t travel up the pitch as we want to.
“It was a proper team performance, everyone chipped in defensively, and with the ball in the build up.
“I cannot criticise too much about that performance today, I would have liked us to keep a clean sheet because I think we deserved it for the most part.
“But the lads were excellent.”
