Luke Williams praises skipper Matt Grimes after goal on milestone appearance
Head coach Luke Williams had warm words of praise for Matt Grimes after the Swansea City skipper marked his 300th appearance for the club with a goal in the 2-2 draw at Norwich City.
The midfielder brought up his latest milestone as he approaches the end of his eighth full season as a Swan, and he was prominent in a fine display in an entertaining contest against the play-off chasing Canaries.
Jamie Paterson had put the visitors ahead with a thunderous finish following a slick team move, but goals from Gabriel Sara and Josh Sargent had the Canaries ahead at the break.
But the Swans responded, and Grimes held his nerve to score from the spot after Ronald had been brought down by Angus Gunn.
And Williams praised the professionalism and consistency of his skipper.
“He is absolutely top,” said the Swans boss.
“We are so fortunate having the skipper, and again he showed his quality on the ball, and his commitment off it.
“Late in the game he made a forward run from deep to get inside the box and it was incredible.
“He gets kicked and just gets back up and carries on. It is impossible to speak more highly of Grimesy.
“I am very lucky and fortunate to get to work with him."
