Luke Williams | Lapses in concentration cost us
Head coach Luke Williams felt Swansea City had paid the price for lapses of concentration at key moments after watching his side fall to a 3-1 defeat at Championship leaders Leicester City.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had put the Foxes ahead in just the third minute, firing home after being sent in behind the Swansea defence.
However, the visitors settled after a difficult start, with Jerry Yates, Jamie Paterson and Harry Darling all unable to convert presentable opportunities.
And defensive errors then led to a Stephy Mavididi penalty and Yunus Akgun’s finish, which ensured there was no way back despite Joe Allen netting a late goal in what was an improved showing from Williams’ side.
But the Swans boss says his side have to maintain their focus and concentration at all times if they are to become the side they want to be.
“We were in the game for long spells, but you are going to have to be really clinical when your chances come against this team,” he said.
“And then you cannot give them a gift. Their first goal is a fantastic action from top players, even though it was disappointing, but the second and third goals are down to our mistakes and you cannot afford to do that.
“You have to come to places like this and be absolutely outstanding. The overall performance was not as disappointing as the scoreline might suggest.
“I want us to be brave and try and play on the front foot more, but you have to fully concentrate for the entire game and you cannot give anything away.”
For the Swans there was the welcome sight of Ben Cabango making a return from injury as a substitute, while new signing Ronald showed glimpses of his pace and ability as he got 45 minutes under his belt on debut.
“I think straight away he showed us the intensity, his speed and how direct he is,” said Williams of the Brazilian.
“He showed he can be tough, he was in the game against an outstanding team and was not intimidated which is encouraging.
“It’s good to have Ben back too, he is such a strong leader and such a good player, so it’s really good to have him back."
