Head coach Luke Williams admitted it had been a dreadful day after Swansea City suffered a 3-0 south Wales derby defeat at Cardiff City.

The Swans have enjoyed the upper hand in recent derby history, but they faded after controlling much of the opening exchanges.

The game was goalless at the interval, but a brace from Callum Robinson inside the first six minutes of the second half put the home side in control.

And Dimitrios Goutas powered home a header with 24 minutes to go to seal the win for the hosts.

“I feel very, very disappointed. We started the game fine but then our performance just evaporated and that’s really upsetting,” said Williams.

“We started to lose a grip on the game and gave away a lot of set-plays and corners, and then we suffered so badly.

“The opposition did a great job of heaping pressure on us, when they sensed that.

“They got the upper hand on us, and we just weren’t able to cope.

“We lost the grip on the game and we were never able to get a foothold again.

“We became sloppy, we came under pressure and we were not aggressive enough when the ball was up for grabs.

“It was a dreadful day. We know it’s such a huge game for everybody and we did not perform in the correct way and we suffered a big defeat.”
