Luke Williams | I take responsibility, it was a very difficult night
Head coach Luke Williams took responsibility for a “very difficult night” after watching Swansea City exit the FA Cup at Premier League Bournemouth.
The Swans chances of reaching the fifth round were all-but ended inside 15 minutes at the Vitality Stadium as Lloyd Kelly, Alex Scott and Luis Sinisterra all found the net for the Cherries.
David Brooks and Dominic Solanke would add further goals for the hosts before the interval, ahead of a goalless second period.
And Williams felt the visitors had paid for being too aggressive when the game got away from them in the early stages.
“It was a very, very difficult night,” said Williams.
“I think the set-up was wrong from the beginning of the game. We were probably too aggressive and trying to be too brave, and we paid the price because we got destroyed on the counter-attack.
“They pressed us incredibly well, so we failed on many fronts in the first half.
“Of course the game is over in 15 minutes, and we tried to stem the flow of the attack and put more bodies behind the ball so we could make more blocks and intercept more key passes, but even that was very difficult and we lost any threat in the second half.
“We were playing against a brilliant side who hold their own in the Premier League. Now we have to concentrate on the league and build the players back up.”
The one positive for the Swans was a first-team debut for defender Filip Lissah, who was introduced as a second-half substitute on the back of his impressive form when leading the club’s under-21s.
“Filip is training with the first team, he holds his own in training,” said Williams.
“We like him, we have really good reports from the academy and so I’m really happy for that one thing that came out of tonight, that we managed to get a young player on the pitch for his debut.”
