Luke Williams admits losing Jisung Eom to injury is disappointing, but wants some of his players to make the most of the opportunity the South Korean international will provide.

Eom will be sidelined for six weeks after suffering a knee ligament injury while on international duty.

But the midfielder’s absence will hand Williams’ forward options the chance to stake a claim for regular selection and game time.

This is an opportunity for players to get additional minutes and to show they should be playing in the team more regularly,” said the Swans boss.

“When you build a squad, you do that knowing there will be injuries.

“It’s part and parcel of the game, and I think someone like Florian (Bianchini) can develop and become a very important and very good player for us.

“We have seen guys come off the bench and start in games in those wide areas, so we do have options there and we have one more day of training to see where we are.

“But I am confident that, while we are very disappointed to lose Eom and we would never want to have him injured, it provides that opportunity for someone to stake a claim and potentially create even more competition for places.

“So we look at the positives of it, which is it gives someone the chance to step up.”
