Lucy Finch | Cup wins put us in a good place
Defender Lucy Finch feels progression in the cup competitions has put Swansea City Women in a good position heading into a busy winter schedule.
The Swans reached the quarter-finals of the Adran Trophy with a 4-0 win over Llanfair United Ladies, having eased past Talycopa AFC Women in the Welsh Cup a week earlier.
Aimee Deacon, Chloe Chivers, Emily Thomas and Emily Richards were all on the scoresheet as the Swans reached the last eight, and next up they face Carmarthen Town Women in the Welsh Cup.
And Finch feels that recent results have put her side in a strong position heading into the winter schedule.
“We went into the game with an objective to win and reach the next round, and we achieved that,” said Finch.
“We clearly wanted to get on the ball and were enjoying ourselves when we were on the ball, so we are happy with the performance and the win.
“I think everything is really positive at the moment, the mood around camp is brilliant.
“The wins boost the mood even more and give us that energy heading into the next run of games. It puts us in good stead heading towards Christmas.
“We will always aim to do well in the cup competitions and we are really pushing for all of them this season.”
Finch has found herself tasked with getting forward in support of attacks more under new manager Jamie Sherwood.
The full-back has embraced the challenge of adapting her game and feels it’s been beneficial to the team.
“We’ve set up for me to play a little bit higher and play in the wider areas,” said Finch
“To begin with it was a little bit out of my comfort zone, but it’s working and it’s helping out the team, so I’m happy.
“We’ve had a couple of clean sheets recently as well, as a defender it’s excellent for us but it comes from the whole team and that helps us all.”
