Llorente: Win was for the fans
21st January
Fernando Llorente said thank you to Swansea City's fans after his double helped Paul Clement's men to a memorable victory at Liverpool.
The Swans had never won a league game at Anfield until Clement's men produced a huge performance to stun the Reds this afternoon.
Liverpool had not lost a Premier League fixture on their own patch in more than year, but the Swans smothered the top flight's top scorers in the first period and then sealed victory in a thrilling second half.
Llorente's quickfire brace put the visitors 2-0 up, only for Roberto Firmino to score twice to even things up.
But just five minutes after the equaliser, Gylfi Sigurdsson swept home to hand Clement his first win as Swans boss.
Llorente celebrated his goals with the travelling Jack Army at Anfield - and the Spanish World Cup winner heaped praise on those in the stands afterwards.
"It was a great feeling to celebrate in front of our supporters and I want to say thank you to them," Llorente said.
"They come to support us everywhere and they are very important to us.
"I am happy because the supporters at Swansea are always behind us. When they sing my name as well, I can only say thank you.
"It is important that we have feeling when we are on the pitch and they are in the stand. We are all together."
Llorente, who now has eight goals since arriving in the Premier League from Sevilla last summer, was thrilled with the character the Swans showed to respond after Liverpool had pegged them back.
"It was a crazy match," he added. "I am very happy to win at one of the biggest clubs in the league. Liverpool are an amazing team with a great stadium.
"They are one of the best teams in the Premier League and to win makes us all very happy - it's an amazing result. Now we have to continue to work and try to move up the league table.
"We have to play always like we did today. Today we have demonstrated that we can play a good match, now we have to carry on like this."
Llorente paid tribute to debutant Tom Carroll's "very good left foot" after the former Spurs man centred for him to head home a fine second goal.
Carroll and Llorente were two of the Swans' top performers on Merseyside, while another new boy, Martin Olsson, produced an encouraging display.
But it was the overall team performance which pleased Clement - and Llorente believes the Swans have set the standard heading into their home game with Southampton a week on Tuesday.
"We needed a confidence boost, to show that we can play like this against a big team," he said.
"It was a difficult match. We had to defend a lot because Liverpool have a lot of good players.
"But our game plan was very good, we stayed in the middle of the pitch and pressed when they had the ball.
"It's a very important win, and now we can continue with more confidence.
"We need to prepare now for Southampton, another strong team who play good football."
