Llewellyn: Plenty of positives

Under-21s coach Chris Llewellyn says there were plenty of positives to take from Wednesday's goalless draw against Coventry.

The visitors dominated for long spells and were unfortunate not to take all three points in their opening game of the Development League Two South campaign.

The home side had goalkeeper Lee Burge to thank, as the youngster made a string of fine saves - most notably from Kris Scott's close range effort in the first half.

"It was a good performance," said Llewellyn. "The boys did everything we asked them to do, but we just lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

"We were disappointed with the result, but not the performance. There were many positives from last season because we would have lost a game like that.

"They (Coventry) had one free kick after two minutes, but other than that they didn't really open us up.

"We created at least ten or twelve really good chances but couldn't put them away."

The draw against Coventry came on the back of a positive pre-season for Llewellyn's side, who lost just once in eight games.

And he believes the squad's hard work was evident in Wednesday's goalless draw as the young Swans now prepare to face Ipswich on Monday (August 25).

"The boys looked fit and there was a real hunger and desire out there," he said. "We just lacked a little bit of quality to win the game.

"But it's a point and a clean sheet and we take that into Monday where we can hopefully get a win."
