Lifelong Jack Liam Cullen pens new Swansea City contract
The 25-year-old Wales international’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, but his new terms further extend a stay with the Swans that stretches all the way back to when Cullen first joined the club at just eight years of age.
"It’s fair to say we have tried to get this deal sorted in a short space of time, since we have come back to negotiating," said Swansea City head coach Luke Williams.
“It’s fair to say we have tried to get this deal sorted in a short space of time since we have come back to negotiating.
“I think that is evident and I think everyone is happy with that, because it so important to have Liam’s contract situation sorted out.
“He is a player who gives everything for the club every single day, and you can see that on the pitch.
“He is tireless, he gets through so much work for the team, but we know he has quality as well.
“We have not been as potent as we would like to be, but we know having the likes of Liam Cullen will help us do that in the future.
“In addition to that, he has come through the academy ranks.
“You have to overcome so many challenges and hurdles to be at the club for this length of time and I know there will be a lot of people within this club who will be very proud to see him put pen to paper.
“They will be using him as an example to the academy players of what you can achieve at Swansea City.”
Kilgetty-raised Cullen rose through the academy ranks – including featuring for the under-18s when aged just 13 - to make his first-team bow against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in August 2018.
The striker stepped up to the senior environment on a full-time basis in early 2020, and netted his first goal to help the Swans reach the play-offs later that year in a dramatic 4-1 win at Reading.
Cullen spent the second half of the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Lincoln and, following a return from a shoulder injury, went on to enjoy a breakthrough campaign at Championship level the next season as he scored nine goals and contributed two assists from 32 appearances.
A further seven goals - including a memorable finish in a 2-0 south Wales derby win – and five assists followed in the 2023-24 season, which also saw the striker pass 100 appearances for the club he has supported all his life.
He won his first senior cap for Wales against Gibraltar in October 2023, and he now has five international appearances to his name. In total, Cullen has 23 goals in 130 appearances for Swansea City, with three of those goals coming this season.
