Liam Smith and Swansea City Under-21s are relishing the task of taking on nine-time winners The New Saints in the Nathaniel MG Cup final at Jenner Park on Saturday (5.30pm).

The Swans booked their place in the showpiece by beating JD Cymru Premier side Cardiff Met on penalties in the semi-finals.

The development side - competing in the competition for the first time - eased through the previous rounds with wins over Carmarthen Town, Caerau Ely, Cardiff City and Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Twenty-year-old Smith has played in every Nathaniel MG Cup fixture leading up to the final, and he says the experience of playing against senior men's teams has been beneficial in his development for the future.

And the young Swans are eager to take on a TNS side who have been the dominant force in the Welsh domestic game over a number of years.

"We're excited, it's a huge game but we're all up for it and we've been working hard," he said.

"We've been preparing as usual, a lot of detail has gone into our training with video and drills before the weekend. As a team, and as individuals we've all got a part to play.

"They're a tough team, they're going to make it hard for us for sure but it'll be a good test hopefully, and we can stamp our identity in the game.

"We all believe in ourselves, and it's been a great competition for us so far, but it will be topped off if we can lift that trophy on Saturday.

"The mood has been good in training, we're all working together. We've got 90 minutes on Saturday for all of it to pay off."
