Liam Smith joins Swansea City Academy
Scottish midfielder Liam Smith has joined Swansea City’s academy after completing a move from Manchester City, subject to international clearance.
Smith has signed a two-and-a-half year deal through to the end of June 2025 and will link up with Jon Grey and Anthony Wright’s under-21 squad.
The 19-year-old Scottish age-grade international had been at City since 2020, having had a long spell with his hometown club Kilmarnock.
Smith is capable of operating out wide or in an attacking midfield role, and is known for being direct and skilful on the ball.
During his time with the Citizens, Smith helped them secure the Premier League 2 Under-18s title in 2022, having signed his first professional deal in 2021.
“We are delighted to welcome Liam to Swansea City,” said academy manager Andy Goldie.
“He is an exciting and talented young player. He is dominant in one v one situations, is creative in the final third and has an impressive goal contribution rate at both academy and international youth level.
“His decision to join Swansea City highlights the strength of the pathway we have and the opportunity we provide young players.
“If Liam can maximise those moments, he’ll be an exciting prospect for us in the future.
“Also, I’d like to thank Jason Wilcox and his staff for their professionalism and support.
“They have been open to this opportunity for Liam from an early stage and have certainly made the process in bringing him to Swansea City a lot smoother.”
