Liam Ross | Patience key to comeback win
Coach Liam Ross praised the patience of Swansea City Under-21s after a late goal from Maliq Cadogan helped them come from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Colchester United in the Professional Development League.
The Swans went 1-0 down early on when Kaan Bennett's strike from distance found the bottom corner, but Ben Lloyd netted the equaliser on his first start back following injury to ensure the scores were level at the interval.
Then, with six minutes to go, Cadogan converted from a set-piece delivery to give the visitors all three points.
The win extends the Swans unbeaten start to 2024, following previous wins over Cardiff Met (5-4 on penalties) and Millwall.
And Ross was pleased with the application from the development side, particularly from those who stepped up to the higher-age group from under-18 level.
Arthur Parker made his first start for the under-21s, whilst Thomas Woodward got 25 minutes under his belt in the second half.
"Overall, it was a game we can take lots of positives from," said Ross.
"Several players returned from injury and we had a number of under-18s in the squad, who I thought applied themselves extremely well in the game.
"We didn’t start the game well and paid the price for it by going a goal down.
"However, once we found our rhythm the boys created so many excellent opportunities, and on another day we would put those in the back of the net.
"Credit to the players for remaining patient and finding a way to get the winner, which they thoroughly deserved."
