Liam Ellis | We had to battle for three points
Swansea City Women’s caretaker assistant coach Liam Ellis was pleased with the fighting spirit the side showed as they beat Aberystwyth Town Women 3-1.
Nia Jones opened the scoring for the Swans with her second goal of the season as she headed home from close range early on.
The lead was soon doubled when Josie Pugh scored an own goal from Taite Trivett’s low cross.
Aberystwyth found a way back into the game before the break, with Lily Moralee-Hughes captailsing on a mix up at the back to pull a goal back.
But Maddy Murray would seal all three points for the visitors, a long-range strike making it 3-1 and sealing a fourth win on the bounce for the Swans.
Ellis was pleased with the side’s fight throughout the game, and felt the atmosphere in the group was crucial to their current form after a difficult season.
“The girls had to battle hard in what was a tough game,” said Ellis.
“It was a scrappy and physical game, but to come away with three points and three more goals on the board, we are happy with that.
“It set the momentum for us to get that early goal, once we get that first one we were calm and we know we could get a few more, so that was a big help.
“It’s not just on the attacking players for us to get those goals, everyone has a part to play, so to see the defenders consistently getting on the scoresheet shows the team ethos we are looking to create.
“Taite [Trivett] has been fantastic, her hold up play, her pace, every time she had the ball she looked a threat and she’s an important part of our team, which was evident with her helping us to two goals.
“It’s a great atmosphere in the camp at the moment, everyone in training is smiling and happy to be around the place.
“It’s a very happy camp with everyone supporting each other and that’s been crucial for us.”
