Liam Cullen | We gave ourselves too much to do
Liam Cullen admits Swansea City cannot afford to start slowly in games after a sluggish opening saw them drop points at home to Portsmouth.
The Swans came from 2-0 down to secure a point, with Cullen involved in both goals as his cross led to Connor Ogilvie putting through his own net, before he fired home a cutback for his fifth goal of the season.
But the forward acknowledged the manner in which they allowed Pompey to profit as Matt Ritchie and Josh Murphy capitalised on the hosts failing to clear their lines.
“We did not start the game well enough at all, and we knew we had made it really tough for ourselves because they are fighting for their lives,” said the Wales international.
“We managed to get back into the game, we showed the character we have in the squad to respond, but we know we should not have got ourselves into that position.
“The overriding feeling is disappointment at how we started the game, and that we didn’t go on an win it having got back into it.
“We have got to get back down to work, and try and get back to winning ways as soon as possible.”
Cullen’s goal was his fifth of the season and he now has four goal involvements in his last three games.
The 25-year-old is enjoying his football and hopes his run of form can continue.
“I am enjoying my football at the moment, I am trying to be as confident as I can and to try and make things happen,” he said.
“I am happy to be contributing to the team at the moment, and I hope I can carry on doing that.”
