Liam Cullen | That performance gives us a platform to build on
Liam Cullen believes Swansea City’s showing against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup has given them a platform to build on ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bristol City (12.30pm).
The Swans suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Premier League Cherries in the second round of the cup, but pushed Andoni Iraola’s side all the way in an entertaining encounter.
In the end, a stoppage-time strike from Ryan Christie sent the visitors into the third round, but there was plenty for the home side to take into their weekend clash with the Robins.
“We have a lot of new faces in the building, players and staff,” said Cullen.
“Some have been here for 10 weeks, while for others it has been a lot less, so we are still adapting to each other and we are still building those on-field relationships.
“We are getting used to playing with each other on the field and to push a Premier League team, who have spent a lot of money and have top players, all the way and be disappointed not to take the tie to penalties shows there is plenty to be positive about.
“It gives us a real platform to go and build on now. Hopefully we can start to get those wins under our belt in the league and push up the table.”
And Cullen is looking forward to quickly being back in front of the Jack Army for what is always an eagerly-anticipated fixture.
“Like the gaffer says, a lot of people would have written us off against a Premier League side, so it’s now about going out there and doing it when the pressure is on us,” he added.
“The atmosphere we get here for the home games against Bristol is one of the best so we want to go out and get ourselves right to go and put on a performance on Saturday.”
