Lewis O'Brien | First goal caps a whirlwind few weeks
Midfielder Lewis O’Brien was pleased to cap a special few weeks for he and his family with a first Swansea City goal, as he helped the side to a 3-0 win over Plymouth Argyle.
O’Brien nodded home a diving header just four minutes into the game to open his account for the club following his arrival on loan from Nottingham Forest in January.
The 26-year-old celebrated the goal with a tribute to his recently born daughter Olive, who he and his wife welcomed to the world just a couple of weeks ago.
The midfielder was delighted to open his account and round off what has been a busy but special few weeks after becoming a father.
“To get my first goal in a Swansea shirt was a big moment,” said O’Brien.
“It’s been a whirlwind, I’ve not had much time in training, it’s just been game after game.
“Becoming a father kind of just flicks a switch, and you’ve got a lot more to play for, so to have these last couple of weeks, score my first goal, and celebrate the way I did, it means everything to me."
O'Brien's goal came when Ronald picked out his late arrival into the box with a perfect cross, and the former Huddersfield man revealed that is a side of his game he has been working on with the coaching staff.
And he hopes he can make more important contributions during the final run-in.
“It feels amazing, I’ve been talking to the staff about trying to get into the box more and adding some goals and assists to my game," he added.
“We spoke in the changing room about needing to get off to a fast start, we knew that Plymouth were fighting for their lives and they were going to come out with everything, so to get that early goal kills their momentum a little bit.
“A couple of the staff members that have come in have been with me before, I played with Richard Stearman, and Mark Fotheringham obviously knows me from Huddersfield so they understand how to get the best out of me.
“I think from that the position that I’ve been in for the last couple of weeks really shows what I can do.
“There is a good feeling around the training ground at the moment and I think that is showing on the pitch.
“We played some great football, we battled hard and it could probably have been five or six goals if we were a bit more clinical, but the lads and the staff are buzzing and hopefully we can keep that momentum until the end of the season.”
