Leroy to skipper Swans
Graham Potter has revealed that Leroy Fer has been appointed as Swansea City’s new skipper with Mike van der Hoorn serving as his No. 2.
The Swans were without a captain following the summer departure of Angel Rangel.
And after assessing the squad since taking over in June, Potter has chosen two Dutchmen as his leaders.
With Fer still on the comeback trail following an Achilles injury, van der Hoorn wore the armband in the thrilling opening-day win at Sheffield United.
Afterwards, Potter explained: “Leroy and Mike are captain and vice-captain.
“Leroy was not available today because of injury so Mike did the job.
“I have been pleased with Mike as a character and as a player as well.
“It’s not something he has done before, but it’s a role I think he will grow into.”
Midfielder Fer is one of the most experienced players in the Swans squad, while former Ajax man van der Hoorn established himself in the first team last season.
“I made an assessment of the group and those two seemed to be the right choices for me,” Potter added.
“Leroy and Mike have been great since I came in.”
