Lawrence Vigouroux | It has been a good start for me, the guys have been great
Lawrence Vigouroux faces former club Burnley this weekend believing his start to life with Swansea City shows his summer switch to SA1 was the right move for him.
The 30-year-old has started every game for the Swans so far this term, keeping five clean sheets to help Luke Williams’ side enjoy one of the best defensive records in the Championship so far this term.
His distribution has also helped the Swans in their build-up, and the Chile national squad member has relished working with head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson, and being reunited with Williams.
But he is keen to share the credit for Swansea’s solidity at the back with his teammates.
“I think it’s been a good start for me, it’s been tough but it’s nothing that I didn’t expect. I really enjoyed it and hopefully it can continue,” he said.
“From the staff to the players, they’ve really helped me day-to-day with things off the pitch as well as on the pitch.
“I think I always tough I could play at this level, it’s been a long road to get here and I’m just enjoying everyday because it’s taken me a very long time to get to this level.
“Our record is good and we have such good defenders here, they work so hard in training and we, as a group, work really hard as well.
“That’s really important for everybody because it’s everyone working together collectively to have such a good defensive record.
“I think that’s just down to mainly how hard we work, what the manager and staff give use every day, the detail.
“We also have to have the hunger to defend. You look at people like Myles (Peart-Harris) and Florian (Bianchini) when he came on in midweek, how hard he worked and pressed for the team.”
Vigouroux took a bit of stick from the home fans during the win over Oxford, having previously been sent off twice when playing against the U’s for Oxford.
But he doesn’t expect to experience a similar reception when he returns to Turf Moor on Sunday, even if it is for a rather self-effacing reason.
“I’m looking forward to going there, I don’t think I’ll get any boos because unless you were watching the warm-up I don’t think you’d know who I am!” he laughed.
“In football, you never know what happens and I’m really looking forward to playing there.
“It was a really good learning curve for me, learning under a manager who’s ended up going to Bayern Munich, and his staff.
“I really enjoyed my time there with the players and the day-to-day stuff in the changing room. “Of course it was frustrating not playing, that’s why I made the decision to come here and it has worked out well so far.”
