Lawrence Vigouroux | I am so excited by this opportunity, I want to make the most of it
Lawrence Vigouroux is hungry and excited to make the most of his opportunity at Swansea City after joining from Burnley.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has made the move to the Swans for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance, and has linked up with his new teammates at their training camp in Austria.
Vigouroux becomes the club’s third signing of the summer window following the arrivals of Goncalo Franco and Eom Ji-sung, and he will wear the number 22 shirt after signing a two-year contract, with an option for an additional 12 months.
Renowned for his bravery – with his gloves and with the ball at his feet – Vigouroux is reunited with head coach Luke Williams, who he previously worked with at Swindon.
And, after a season with Burnley on the back of an excellent three-year stint with Leyton Orient, the stopper is determined to seize his chance at Championship level.
“I cannot wait to get started, I know a couple of the lads already – Joe Allen and Kyle Naughton - and I want to make the most of this opportunity,” said Vigouroux.
“This feels like it has been a long time coming and I have an opportunity now to train with a really good group of lads and a really good quality squad.
“I just want to be as good as I can every single day. Like I say, there is a really good squad here and we have to be aiming as high as we can, we have to be looking forward
“This is a massive club. I know nothing is guaranteed, there are some really good goalkeepers I am going to work with every day.
“I am looking forward to this challenge, it’s not good to be comfortable in football. You have to be worried about who is behind you and who is in front of you.
“That’s very important, I think it brings out the best in everyone.”
Vigouroux acknowledges the opportunity to work with Williams again played an important part in his decision to join Swansea, as was knowing that a move to SA1 would see him work with Martyn Margetson, the club’s head of goalkeeping and England’s goalkeeping coach.
“Luke played a massive part in my decision,” he said.
“I think when you have that trust from someone that you know already it makes everything a lot easier, and the conversation is a lot easier as well.
“I know exactly what he’s like, I know how he is and how he works. I think it’s really good that we have that relationship.
“It’s very good for me and it’s also good that I can have someone to lean on straight away. It’s very important and I’m really looking forward to working with him this season.
“It’s the same with Martyn Margetson. I spoke to James Trafford at Burnley and he said nothing but good things about him when he was with him before the Euros.
“I’m really looking forward to working with someone of his pedigree, someone that has worked with the types of players that he has.
“I feel like he’s only going to help not just me, but everyone else in the goalkeeping unit improve their game. I’m very happy to have that experience and someone I can work with day to day.”
