Laudrup hails Swans after win

Michael Laudrup saluted his players after the Swans registered their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory at West Brom.

The visitors took a first-half lead when Ben Davies fired a superb volley past Boaz Myhill from a Pablo Hernandez cross.

Hernandez himself hit the crossbar with ten minutes to play but the Spaniard went on to seal the win - and Swansea's first points of the campaign - when he slammed home after being teed up by Michu.

And Laudrup was delighted with his players as they got off the mark with a win and a clean sheet.

"It was a great performance," he said. "It's always difficult to play away from home, and we knew it was important to get something from the game.

"When we saw the fixtures at the start we knew it would be difficult, but you have to get results against teams that are in your league so to speak.

"They had a big chance in the first half, but then we dominated and created plenty of chances.

"We didn't take them and then you are wondering what might happen in the final ten minutes but we got the second goal and it was all over.

"Overall, it was a great win and a very important three points."

The game at the Hawthorns came just 48 hours after the Swans returned from their Europa League clash in Romania.

Laudrup made six changes to the side that started against Petrolul Ploiesti, and the visitors looked sharp and incisive throughout against Albion.

The Swans now head into the two-week international break with their first points of the season, and the boss highlighted the importance of the win.

"There are so many things to be pleased about," said Laudrup. "Not least the win and the performance.

"We didn't get back from Romania until the early hours of Friday morning and today's performance was really pleasing from that point of view.

"We have another three trips in the Europa League to come, and we have to be ready for when we play on a Sunday in the league.

"But it's good that the break comes now, and these three points are so important."

And with the transfer window set to slam shut at 11pm on Monday night, Laudrup is also confident of adding to his squad.

"We will add one tomorrow," he said. "A lot of players has been linked, but one of them will join us.

"Let's just see tomorrow, but hopefully we will finish everything in time."

Meanwhile, the result leaves West Brom with one point from their opening three games - including two home defeats - and boss Steve Clarke felt there wasn't too much between the two sides.

"I thought it was a good game between two teams that like to pass the ball," he said. "But Swansea had more of a cutting edge on the day.

"We got in some good positions but didn't show enough quality or conviction to convert the chances we created."
