Kyrell Wilson thrilled to be back amongst the goals after injury
Kyrell Wilson was thrilled to be back from injury and back amongst the goals after his brace helped Swansea City Under-21s to three points against Colchester United.
Wilson opened the scoring in the 4-1 win when he won and converted a penalty in the early stages.
Thomas Woodward added the Swans' second of the afternoon from a Sammy Henia-Kamau cross, before the visitors pulled one back through Alfie Bendle.
However, Wilson instantly restored Swansea's two-goal lead before the break, before Morgan Bates rounded off the scoring in the closing stages, curling the ball into the net from distance.
Wilson, who suffered an injury-stricken 2024, made a brief return at the end of the calendar year; scoring in his first game back against Fleetwood Town in the Premier League Cup.
And the forward, who netted 18 goals in all competitions last term, is now hoping to maintain his fitness and goalscoring form with a busy schedule to come for the age-grade side.
"It's a nice feeling personally to get those two goals, it's going to help my confidence massively as I'm still getting back up to speed," said Wilson.
"It was a good performance from the boys, we controlled the game in a lot of areas and we created a lot of chances, and we could have had a lot more goals. It's a good way to start the new year.
"It was such a tough period for me when I was injured, I had small spells where I'd come back and then would have to be sidelined again, and all I did was just miss playing football. But the staff and everyone here helped me through that.
"Getting back out there and grabbing a few goals has made me hungry for more, and I'm determined to keep working hard everyday."
