Swansea City Women’s captain Katy Hosford praised the way her side bounced back from their Welsh Cup exit after they returned to winning ways with their 3-2 victory over Wrexham.

The Swans had suffered a 3-1 defeat to Cardiff City in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup semi-finals, but they responded in perfect fashion as they started phase two of the Genero Adran Premier with their win over the Red Dragons.

Steph Turner headed the Swans ahead early, before Amber Lightfoot equalised just a minute later.

Hosford then restored the home side's lead before the break with a fantastic solo effort, before heading home Ellie Lake’s cross to make it 3-1.

Carra Jones netted a late goal in added time, but it would prove to be a consolation for the visitors.

And skipper Hosford was delighted to return to winning ways and praised her side's resilience after the cup setback.

“It was a tough game, but I think we dominated it for most of the game and it’s great to start phase two with a solid three points,” said Hosford.

“We scored three goals but I think we could have had five or six with the chances we had, particularly in the second half.

“Wrexham capitalised on a few of our mistakes, so that is something for us to work on in training to put right, but I don’t think there was too much threat outside of that.

“We’ve been flying over the last couple of weeks, obviously we suffered a loss to Cardiff in the cup which was disappointing, but I think it shows the resilience in the team to bounce back and put in a performance like that.

“We are taking every game as it comes at this point, we know that we have to try and get three points from each game.

“We are heading into the game with Aberystwyth fully focused, we will work hard in training for that one and hopefully we stay in the hunt.”
