Katy Hosford says she is honoured to lead Swansea City Ladies after being chosen as club captain for the 2023-24 season.

The midfielder has been with the club for 10 years, making her debut in 2013 before helping her side to four Genero Adran Premier titles.

Hosford comes into the new season on the back of a fine 2022-23 campaign, having finished as the Swansea's joint-top scorer with 15 goals.

The 25-year-old is excited to wear the armband for her side and hopes to inspire the next generation of female players in the city and surrounding area.

“I’m really grateful to have been asked to be captain, it’s something that I’d always hoped for since I was a young girl. Having been captain of the development centre, that’s just one of your goals.

“I’m following in the steps of some amazing leaders that have been at the football club, I’m really honoured, and I can’t wait to get going in September.

“It’s about being a good leader and a good role model, not just to my teammates but to all the young girls who are aspiring to play football, whether it’s for Swansea or whoever it might be, and showing them it can be done.

“I’ve got to make sure that it’s a good environment and, if there are any problems, just trying to be that person to get rid of them and set an example.

“When I first came into the team Alicia Powe was the captain and I honestly can’t think of any words to describe how amazing she’s been since I joined at 16 years of age.

“She made me feel welcome, it was a really daunting place joining a Ladies team and she’s just been amazing, if I can be half the captain that Powe has been I’ll be very happy.

“It hopefully shows all the younger girls that it can happen to you, if you work hard and you stick at it, it’s not always going to be easy, there are lots of ups and downs but, if you keep going, who knows what opportunities will arise.”
