Josh Tymon believes he and his teammates will only improve under head coach Luke Williams after the wing-back provided two assists in Swansea City’s 2-2 Championship draw at Birmingham City.

Tymon’s corner delivery was headed in by Harry Darling to give the visitors a shortlived lead, as Siriki Dembele equalised just 90 seconds later to leave the scores level at the break.

But Tymon was on hand with another key contribution in the second half as he played a smart ball from the left for Jamal Lowe to toe beyond John Ruddy.

It left the Swans on track to secure three points, but Jordan James’ excellent, drilled strike from distance found the bottom corner in injury time to ensure the points would be shared.

But Tymon felt the Swans showed positive signs of what supporters can expect to see under the new boss, and it’s a style of play he’s looking forward to being part of.

“To concede at the end like that is heartbreaking,” he said.

“But we knew it was going to be a tough place to come. They’ve got a new manager, it’s his first game, so I think to come away with a point on a day like that is positive, even though we’re disappointed that we didn’t get all three points.

“To say we’ve had just over a week with the new manager, I think for the majority of the game you could see what we’ve been doing in training in the short time he’s been here.

“It was different to how we’ve been playing this season, and I think the fans will go home with a lot of optimism and knowing how we’re going to be playing moving forward.

“You could see the patterns that we were trying to implement, and in time we will get better.

“There’s been a lot of information, but to be fair to the lads, they’ve taken everything on that he has asked us to do so far, we will get better with time. The mood around the training ground has been brilliant.”

For Tymon, the change of shape saw him in a much more advanced role as he was deployed as a left wing-back, while youngster Sam Parker played the same role on the right.

And the pair were used to good effect throughout, with both Swansea goals teed up by the former Stoke City man.

“It’s nice to be in those attacking areas, and it’s nice to get assists, because obviously that helps us get goals,” he added.

“The gaffer gave me a lot of freedom, allowed me to threaten in behind, and I think that’s one of my strengths and it came off.

“I’m happy to play whatever position, or however the gaffer wants me to play. If he wants me to play deep, I can play deep but I enjoyed that freedom of getting in behind and causing problems.

“He’s just told me to play to my strengths. Like I said, he gave me the freedom in the attacking third and he loves getting the ball into the box.

“I think one of my biggest assets is crossing, so it’s perfect for me really. If I had to pick a style to suit my game, it would be this so I’m looking forward to the next few games.”

Nearly 2,000 members of the Jack Army made the journey to the west Midlands to back the Swans, and Tymon praised their magnificent support throughout the game.

“The fans were brilliant,” he added.

“All game, even in the warm-up, they didn’t stop singing. I can imagine they’ve gone home with sore throats. They were brilliant. There’s a feelgood factor at the moment, and I think they’ve got a lot to look forward to in the near future."
