Josh Tymon | I want to bring energy and athleticism to Swansea City
Josh Tymon wants to bring energy and athleticism to Swansea City following his deadline-day move from Stoke City, and revealed how a chat with former teammate Joe Allen played a part in his move to SA1.
The 24-year-old left-sided defender was one of four arrivals at the Swans during the final hours of the transfer window, and he has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, which also includes the option for an additional 12 months.
Having come through the ranks at Hull, Tymon spent six years with the Potters, establishing himself as a Championship regular and making 122 appearances in total.
He adds to head coach Michael Duff’s options on the left side of his defence, and Tymon hopes to bring a mixture of effort and quality to the Swans side.
“I want to bring pure energy, and be getting up and down that left flank,” he said.
“I can play numerous positions, but generally anywhere down the left-hand side is where I am best suited.
“I want to bring energy and athleticism, I want to get forward and I want to play forward.
“I know it might sound like a cliché, but it’s a big part of my game and I hope I can chip in with a few assists as well.
“If anyone has watched me over the past two years, I think my link-up play with wingers and forwards in front of me has been a big strength in my game.
“The defensive part is important, but to be able to add that bit of quality and creative sense in forward areas can really help the team.
“I want to get down to work, try and break into the team and help the players who are here.
“Anything I can do, I will do. I know the Championship well and I cannot wait to work to help us finish as high up as possible.”
Tymon’s stint at the bet365 Stadium saw him play alongside Swansea’s former Wales midfielder Allen for five years.
And, the 33-year-old was one of those Tymon sought out when he became aware a move to south Wales was a possibility.
“Obviously I knew, Joe. I spoke to him when it started to come out that there was some interest in me,” said Tymon.
“He gave me some extra bits of advice and spoke about the feel around the club, and that helped me in my decision.”
Swansea actually have a prominent place in one of Tymon’s career milestones, the Hull-born defender scored his first senior goal for his hometown club in a 2-0 FA Cup victory over the Swans in January 2017.
Now he is hoping to create more memorable moments, but this time in Swansea colours.
“Someone mentioned this to me the other day. I’d almost forgotten it, I’d been on the pitch for about five to 10 minutes before,” he said.
“It was a nice feeling, although obviously I’ll be hoping I can create some good memories in a Swansea shirt now I am here.
“It’s amazing to be here, it all happened in a short space of time in terms of an agreement being reached between the two clubs and then me getting myself down here.
“I did my medical in Manchester as it was near to me, and with it being Friday and with the traffic it might have been a bit touch and go as to whether I would get to Swansea.
“Once we had the all-clear we drove to Swansea, got here around 1am and then we went to watch the game on Saturday too.
“Everything about the move appealed to me, I have always enjoyed playing against Swansea too when I have been on the opposition team.
“The fans are great, the stadium is unbelievable, and just being around the place the past few days has underlined that it’s a good decision.
“It’s been easy to blend straight in with the group, everyone has been so welcoming. I just have a good feeling straight away.”
