Josh Key | It's the same story and we have to work to change it
Josh Key admits Swansea City’s defeat at Blackburn Rovers felt like groundhog day, and says Luke Williams' side have to work to improve their fortunes in the final third.
The Swans lost 1-0 at Ewood Park thanks to Tyrhys Dolan’s deflected 13th-minute strike but, not for the first time this season, were left ruing missed opportunities from a contest they had long spells of control in.
Head coach Luke Williams acknowledged his side need to find a ruthless edge in the final third to capitalise on their good play in other areas.
In Lancashire, Florian Bianchini was unable to turn in a low cross from Key at the far post, while the full-back also sent another threatening delivery across the face of goal in stoppage time.
Goncalo Franco snatched at a strike from a knockdown in the area, while Liam Cullen looked a header over the bar.
And Key echoed the sentiments of the Swans boss as he spoke of the frustration in the dressing room, but says the responsibility is very much a collective one.
“It is incredibly frustrating. We have come here and dominated large parts of the game but not got the result, and I feel like we’re a bit like a scratched record with that at the moment,” said the defender.
“We just have to score the goals. The chances are there and we should have taken something from the game.
“There is a lot of work going in on the training ground but, ultimately, we have to be able to then put that work out onto the pitch in a game.
“That’s something we have to put right as a collective, but it is frustrating because I think you see a lot of the rest of it is there.
“We have got a good defensive record, we are dominating periods in games, there are positives from that but we are not in the position we want to be in.
“There is a long way to go in the season, there are still the best part of 40 games to go, but there’s some things that are not quite clicking at the moment.”
