Josh Key glad to be back after frustrating lay-off
Josh Key has set his sights on building up his fitness and picking up where he left off following an impressive start to life at Swansea City.
The defender made his return from a lay-off with an ankle ligament injury as a late substitute in the draw with Hull City.
It was the 24-year-old’s first appearance since the meeting with Leicester back in October, and he admitted it has been frustrating to be watching on having started the season well.
But he is determined to get more minutes under his belt, and work hard to keep improving and performing to a high level.
“It was good to be on the bench and get the chance to get some minutes,” said Key.
“Things have really settled down with the ankle and I am happy with it, it’s felt like a long five-and-a-half weeks.
“Football is all about momentum and I felt like things had started well for me here.
“I was really keen to keep that going and pushing on ahead of Christmas, but it was not to be.
“Having said that, injuries are part of football and maybe this period out will help me feel fresh for what is going to be a busy period with a lot of games.
“I need to give it time because I need to build up minutes, and I am just looking forward doing my best to help the team.”
The Swans next face Leeds at Elland Road on Wednesday night. The Yorkshire club have yet to lose a game on home turf this season, but Key says these are the sort of challenges the visitors have to look to embrace.
“It’s a great place to go and play football,” he said.
“These are the sort of challenges you have to look forward to, we know we have to perform to give ourselves the best chance of a result.
“They are a strong team, but you have to have the mindset of wanting to go and enjoy it and give it your best shot.”
